Privacy policy
The short version: We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not track you across other apps. We collect the minimum needed to run the app: a sign-in identity (so your recipes work across devices) and what you tell us about your cooking. Photos are processed and discarded.
What we collect
Sign-in identity. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a stable user ID, and optionally your email address and display name (if you choose to share them). This identity is how we know to give you back your saved recipes when you open the app on a new device. We do not receive your Apple or Google password. If you sign in with Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, we never see your real email.
Guest accounts. If you continue without signing in, we generate an anonymous account tied to your device. No name, no email. The only identifier we store is a randomly generated account ID and a device identifier so the free tier counts can survive an app reinstall.
Photos you submit. When you take or pick a fridge photo, FARAH sends it through our secure proxy to an AI service (Anthropic's Claude API) for ingredient identification. The image is processed in real time and is not stored on our servers, the proxy, or in any database we control.
Ingredients, preferences, history. Your selected cuisines, dietary needs, language, time and difficulty preferences, recipe history, favorites, and flavor reviews are stored locally on your device. When you sign in, we also store your free-tier generation count and subscription status on our server, keyed to your account ID.
Community Kitchen posts. If you choose to share a photo of a dish you made in Community Kitchen, that photo and caption are stored on our server (Cloudflare R2) so other users can see them. Posts are tied to an anonymous device-derived ID. You can remove your own posts at any time from within the app.
Subscription status. When you subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, we receive a confirmation that you have an active subscription. We do not see your payment details, credit card, or store account email beyond what is needed to validate the subscription.
Entitlement codes. If you redeem a code (for example, our free access program for users in Gaza), we record that the code is bound to your account so it cannot be reused.
What we do not collect
- No advertising IDs. No third-party trackers. No analytics SDKs.
- No location data.
- No contacts, no microphone access.
- No payment information beyond subscription validation from Apple or Google.
- No data about your activity on other apps or websites.
Third parties
FARAH uses these services to function:
- Apple: Sign in with Apple lets you authenticate with your Apple ID without giving us a password. We receive a stable user ID and, if you allow it, your email. Apple's privacy policy.
- Google: Sign in with Google authenticates you with your Google account. We receive a stable user ID and your email. Google's privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude API): processes images and generates recipes. Requests are routed through our secure proxy. Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare: hosts our Worker proxy and the database that stores account and subscription state. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play: handle in-app purchases. Their respective privacy terms apply to the transaction.
Children's privacy
FARAH is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has used FARAH, contact us at hello@getfarah.app.
Your rights
Delete your account. Open Preferences in the app and tap "Delete account" at the bottom. This permanently removes your account, your free-tier generation count, and any entitlement codes you redeemed. Active subscriptions remain active because they are billed by Apple or Google directly; to cancel a subscription, use the App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
Sign out. Open Preferences and tap "Sign out". Your local data (favorites, history, reviews) stays on your device; only the session token is removed.
Email us anytime. If you want a copy of the data we have about you, want to correct something, or have any question about your data, email hello@getfarah.app. We'll respond within a reasonable time.
If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively. Reach out via email and we will help.
Data retention
Account data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, it is soft-deleted immediately (sign-in identity, email, and display name are erased) and the underlying record is purged within 90 days. Community Kitchen posts you have not deleted yourself remain visible to others; you can delete them at any time from within the app.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material here, we will update the date at the top and note what changed. For meaningful changes, we will notify you in the app.
